Responses fron Duncan Ashgrove to queries and questions raised at DQBOC meeting on 1 September 2006.
01/09/08 ON-GOING ISSUES
Charging Policy. Many members are confused regarding the stated policy of charging per berth length rather than boat length and would appreciate a copy of the Marina plans for clarity.
Members are at liberty to see the berthing lengths as per the marina layout plan - this is situated in the office - Just ask Julie and you can view it.
Fuel berth. We wonder whether the Marina dinghy has been found a berth yet as it still appears to be moored to the fuel pontoon creating an obstruction to people wishing to re-fuel?
The dinghy has been asked to move - the railings need to be removed to comply with HSE regs so as it can be moored on the edge of the fuel pontoon
Tidal Gate. Members report that VHF calls are still frequently not answered at night and we need assurance that security always have mobile sets on standby with the volume up. This has again raised questions over staff qualifications to use VHF which is essential to our safety.
FFrancom Security have been advised that all staff have the cordless phones and handheld VHF - we have sent instructions to them that they must be carried when on patrol - I will contact Ffrancom again for confirmation that this is indeed being observed by all staff - The question of qualification is once again unfounded - as I have stated all marina staff and relevant security staff have been trained and hold a VHF operators licence issued by Frank Radcliffe at North Wales Power and Sail.
Vermin. Members are advised not to encourage aggravation from Swans by feeding them. (See also Matters Arising).
We would agree and encourage the members, other boat owners and residents not to feed any of the birds in the marina.
Vandalism. Householders report that they have no confidence in the present security arrangements and will be setting up their own neighbourhood watch scheme. In order to consider boat owners’ position in this matter we would like a note of the current laid down security procedure including how often the marina is patrolled.
The marina is patrolled on an irregular basis on irregular routes therefore no pattern for vandals to see the route and time taken by the security patrol - we are currently re-assessing the security role within the marina and will keep the members informed of any developments.
WC. Lady members were not satisfied with the response that the wiring in their toilets could not accommodate hair dryers and we suggest that an adjacent spur could be wired from existing hand dryers.
We can only seek advice from the electrical contractors who designed and commissioned the site, we will pass your members comments to them to see if this is possible - safe and legal in a bathroom environment.
01/09/09 NEW ISSUES
Generator. Noise and fumes, particularly at night are adversely affecting members health and well-being and we need to know how much longer it will be in continuous operation?
The generator is the property of and is powering the hotel - from what we can gather there has been a delay in their connection to the main grid system, and this generator is necessary to power the site.
Hotel Parking. It has been noted that car owners visiting the hotel and without permit stickers are using berth-holders parking spots. Can security police this more diligently?
People who use the hotel, may have a boat, be a guest of a boat owner, be buying merchandise from the chandlery or other outlets situated there, therefore we would ask if anyone has visitors that they notify the office of registration numbers and duration of stay to help with this - Parkforce UK are being employed to fine incorrectly parked cars. BUT - we would point out that some boat owners are also members of the hotel spa and when on site should park in the hotel park when visiting the spa, then move their vehicle to marina space once they go to their boat? I am sure you will agree it is a difficult situation, but tolerance and patience should prevail.
Pontoon gate. The pontoon gate parallel to Glan-y-Mor road is not working and apart from being inconvenient, could present a safety risk if the fire brigade could not easily gain access. When will it be fixed?
We have had three companies in to solve this issue, the main issue being the wrong system was installed as the wire run is too far for the system to handle - this is an on going issue on which we shall keep members informed.
Navigation lights. It was noted by a member that the marina access lights by the tidal gate were registering green at low tide recently. Is there a fault?
There has been no fault reported - did the member report it to the marina office? was a date / day / time identified by the member?? If you can get me the details I will look into the matter for you.
Tidal Gate. In the light of the recent failure of the tidal gate we respectfully suggest that if this should recur in future, the fastest way to notify members would be through our comprehensive e-mail and website network. This could be accessed through the Chairman, Roger Lee or our Webmaster, Paul Kent.
We have no issue with this method of notification - please give us the e-mails that you would like info sent to and we will put this on file. At our previous meeting you were going to let us have the list of e-mail addresses of members so that we can send notifications to them from time to time.
* Ref a previous matter regarding the price of electricity on the pontoons, Deganwy Marina are charged at £0.6977 pence per unit plus VAT making the price £0.82 pence per unit, the marina charges 9pence per unit on the pontoon meters. I hope this clarifies the situation, as we can only charge to the nearest penny.
On another matter Julie Jones in the office asks whether members would be interested in purchasing a 2007 diary from the Marina. It would be imprinted on the front with Deganwy Marina name and phone number. These diaries would be sold by the Marina office for £4.99.
They have not yet placed the order for them but wonder whether the berth holders would be interested in purchasing any.
Responses please to Julie at the usual number or accounts@deganwymarina.net
