MINUTES OF LAST MEETING
Minutes of the meeting held on 4 August at The Conwy Yacht Club, Deganwy were approved.
01/09/03 MATTERS ARISING
Mr Duncan Ashgrove, Marina Manager, anticipated my e-mail regarding issues raised at our last meeting and replied immediately on seeing the Minutes posted on our website: (This is his reply, more or less verbatim).
Marina Charging Policy. “As we all know this is confusing and luckily it is only something which we need to address either once a year or when securing your berth for the first time. As a company, as I discussed with you, we bought Deganwy Marina with a specific amount of berths, or lengths of berth available. These berth lengths are then allocated to the various berths, and then charged to berth holders accordingly. In the past, when the marina was relatively new in order to secure custom, some berth holders were charged the linear length of their boat rather than the length of the berth it was occupying. As I am sure you are aware to sell a 12metre berth to a person with a 7 metre boat is not economically viable. So in this respect it is a company policy, which we have enforced from day 1, in that we always charge the berth length not the boat length”.
Vandalism. “As you may be aware, I along with the resident and the hotel and the local constabulary have been meeting to try and address the issues of site security, and to use those assets that we already have that much better. Following my meeting with you in the 1st I have had a meeting where the police were requesting more community spirited action and a neighbourhood watch group was being formulated, this along with the additional security of the hotel should be the biggest deterrent for rogue criminals”.
Fuel Berth. “The higher breakwater would solve some of the issues in mud moving over the breakwater, we are in the process of moving the silt from this area which should improve access when the basin is sealed off from the sea. With regards to the marina dinghy, we will endeavour to move it to the side of the pontoon to improve access for fuel mooring”.
Tidal Gate. “The main criteria of the security at night was to be vigilant on the integrity of the gate, so I can categorically assure the members that as much care is taken by the night staff as the day staff in this regard”.
Notices. “We continue to support and exhibit notices but feel to keep the site looking its best it would be prudent to use the boards in the reception area of the marina”.
Ladies WC. “We approached the designers of the building who told us (sounds familiar) that there would be hairdryers in the ladies, unfortunately the construction is as such that apparently these items can not be retrofitted on the ring mains that are currently in place”.
Fishing. “Fishing is not permitted anywhere on the site”.
Vermin. “The house owners have very strict clauses on their contracts, and actions deemed not to be in the common good of the houses and their partners are frowned upon severely. In this respect I think that a memo to the managing agents should.

01/09/07 SOCIAL
The Chairman has had discussions with Vic Edwards, Membership Secretary of the Conwy Yacht Club, where we hold our meetings, and we are waiting confirmation of an offer of 50% off first year membership of the club. This is expected to be £45 against the normal annual subscription of £90 and would enable us to be involved with the social activities of the club, details of which can be viewed on the link from our website.
01/09/08 ON-GOING ISSUES
The following matters are unresolved and need to be progressed by Management:
Charging Policy. Many members are confused regarding the stated policy of charging per berth length rather than boat length and would appreciate a copy of the Marina plans for clarity.
Fuel berth. We wonder whether the Marina dinghy has been found a berth yet as it still appears to be moored to the fuel pontoon creating an obstruction to people wishing to re-fuel?
Tidal Gate. Members report that VHF calls are still frequently not answered at night and we need assurance that security always have mobile sets on standby with the volume up. This has again raised questions over staff qualifications to use VHF which is essential to our safety.
Vermin. Members are advised not to encourage aggravation from Swans by feeding them. (See also Matters Arising).
Vandalism. Householders report that they have no confidence in the present security arrangements and will be setting up their own neighbourhood watch scheme. In order to consider boat owners’ position in this matter we would like a note of the current laid down security procedure including how often the marina is patrolled.
WC. Lady members were not satisfied with the response that the wiring in their toilets could not accommodate hair dryers and we suggest that an adjacent spur could be wired from existing hand dryers.
01/09/09 NEW ISSUES
Generator. Noise and fumes, particularly at night are adversely affecting members health and well-being and we need to know how much longer it will be in continuous operation?
Hotel Parking. It has been noted that car owners visiting the hotel and without permit stickers are using berth-holders parking spots. Can security police this more diligently?
Pontoon gate. The pontoon gate parallel to Glan-y-Mor road is not working and apart from being inconvenient, could present a safety risk if the fire brigade could not easily gain access. When will it be fixed?
Navigation lights. It was noted by a member that the marina access lights by the tidal gate were registering green at low tide recently. Is there a fault?
Tidal Gate. In the light of the recent failure of the tidal gate we respectfully suggest that if this should recur in future, the fastest way to notify members would be through our comprehensive e-mail and website network. This could be accessed through the Chairman, Roger Lee or our Webmaster, Paul Kent.
01/09/10 DATE OF NEXT MEETING & VENUE
Due to the relatively low turnout at meetings it has been decided to hold meetings bi-monthly although the committee may continue to meet monthly. Therefore the next meeting will again be at The Conwy Yacht Club, Deganwy on Friday 10 November at 8.0pm (To be confirmed).
Roger Lee - Chairman. Deganwy Quay Boat Owners Club.
